Kolam is a form of drawing that is drawn in front of the houses, in major parts of india. Kolam brings prosperity to home. In addition to this, kolam is the best exercise for ladies 😝 Every morning and evening the floor is well swept, washed with water to draw the kolam, because the kolam flour sticks well when the floor is wet. Kolam flour (kolamaavu thats what we call) is made with rice flour in olden days, but nowadays whitestone powder is used for kolam.
Color Kolam is drawn on festive days, to decorate the kolam. It is very auspicious and color kolam also brings lot of joy when drawn. We love to draw coclor kolams. There are many types of kolam can be drawn like sikku kolam, padi kolam, rangoli, free hand kolam, pulli kolam etc;
Beautiful Kolam Tip:
To draw your kolam beautiful and neat, you should have a good quality kola podi( kolam powder ) or you can buy and mix some more flours to get a nice textured kolapodi
Buy the following flours and mix it well:
Kola podi( kolam powder ) - 3 cups
Rice flour - 1/2 cup
Maida flour - 1/4 cup
Keep this kolapodi for drawing kolam, whenever you want make this mixture and use it.
Sweep the floor well, wash or sprinkle well with water and draw the kolam - it will look very beautiful, remember the next morning you should sweep well with a broomstick and water because this flour sometimes sticks to the floor. If you did not clean well the floor will look ugly.
