Vazhaipoo Kootu|Banana Flower Kootu - full recipe with stepwise pictures and video.  Cleaning Vazhaipoo is a tedious process, it needs lot of patience to do it. Though i like this kootu, vazhaipoo vadai i won't choose this vegetable because of the cleaning process. But this time i really want to make this recipe and have the kootu, so i made it. while making i thought to share it with you also, so immediately clicked it. Make it atleast once in a month. Ingredients:
Vazhaipoo/Banana flower - 1
To Pressure Cook Dal:
Toor dal - 1 cup
Garlic - 5
Green chillies - 3
Onion - 2
Tomato - 2
Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
Hing - a pinch
Sambar powder -  1 1/2 tsp
To Temper:
Oil - 2 tsp
Mustard - 1 tsp
Urad dal - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - 1 spring
Red chili - 2

Method:
Wash and soak 1 cup toor dal for 10 - 15 mins
Add toor dal to the pressure cooker followed by the items given under 'to pressure cook dal'[Garlic - 5,Green chillies - 3,Onion - 2,Tomato - 2,Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp,Hing - a pinch,Sambar powder -  1 1/2 tsp]
Add 2 cups water and pressure cook the dal for 5 whistles
After 5 whistles mash the dal with the back of the ladle and keep aside
Clean, chop and wash 1 whole banana flower and add it to the kadai with 3 cups water
Add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder and salt, Cook for 10 minutes
After 10 minutes the vazhaipoo has cooked well, drain and add it to the dal
Cook in medium flame
Mix well
Heat oil in a kadai for tempering
Add the items given under'to temper' and add it to the vazhaipoo, serve hot

With Stepwise Pictures:
