Tomato Dal

Tomato Dal - Full recipe with stepwise pictures and video. Tomato Dal is a perfect recipe for a lazy day lunch preparation. It can be made within 15 minutes. It goes well with rice, there are so many variations in making tomato dal. This is my version and this is how we make in our home. A spicy side dish goes well with this dal. Let's get started.

Ingredients:
Onion - 1
Tomato - 2
Green Chilli - 1
Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
Toor dal - 1/2 cup
Water - 2 cups
Salt
Coriander leaves - for garnishing
To Temper:
Oil - 1 tsp
Mustard - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - 1 spring
Ginger - 1/2"
Garlic - 3 pods

Method:

  1. Heat a Kadai and add the items given under"to temper".
  2. Followed by onion and tomatoes.
  3. Add 1 slit green chilli
  4. Add 1 tsp chilli powder and 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  5. Saute well
  6. Add the 1/2 cup soaked toor dal
  7. Mix well with the onion tomato mixture and saute for 5 minutes
  8. Transfer to a cooker and add 2 cups of water 
  9. Cook for 3 whistles
  10. Let the cooker release the pressure naturally
  11. Mash it well with a ladle
  12. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve


With Stepwise Pictures:
Heat a Kadai and add the items given under"to temper".
Followed by onion and tomatoes.


Add 1 slit green chilli


Add 1 tsp chilli powder and 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
Saute well


Add 1/2 cup toor dal soaked for 15 minutes


Mix well with the onion tomato mixture and saute for 5 minutes


Transfer to a cooker and add 2 cups of water
Cook for 3 whistles


Let the cooker release the pressure naturally
Mash it well with a ladle
Garnish with coriander leaves and serve
