Maida Rava Appam - full recipe with step-wise pictures and video. Appams are always a favourite snack option. This maida rava appam is made in festival days especially a must in diwali. This appam is solid outside, soft inside, fluffy, filling one and what not! It is a filling evening snack option. This is a tasty snack i made this with jaggery powder you can also replace it with whole jaggery . But sugar does not suit the taste, so never replace it with sugar. Ingredients:
Maida - 2 cups
Sooji/Rava - 1/4 cup
jaggery powder - 1 heaped cup
Water
Baking Soda - 2 - 3 pinches
Salt - a pinch
Banana - 1 small
Oil - for deep frying
To Grind:
Coconut bits - 1/4 cup
Whole CAshews - 5 -6
Cardamom - 5
Method:
Add Maida,Rava and jaggery powder in a wide bowl
Mix well with a ladle
In a mixie jar add the items given under ' to grind' and pulse coarsely
Add the coarsely ground mixture to the bowl
Mash and add 1 small banana into the bowl
Mix once
Add required water gradually
Mix to thick flowing batter consistency
Give the batter a resting time of 10 minutes
After 10 minutes add salt and baking soda, mix well
Heat oil and pour a ladle full of batter[ for detailed understanding checkout the video given above]
Cook in medium heat
It will take 4 - 5mins to cook one appam
Wait patiently and keep flipping to other side
Once done the appam seems increased in weight, thick and floating
At this stage remove from flame
Do this for the remaining appams
Serve hot
