Pepper Idli Upma - full recipe with stepwise pictures and video. Idli upma is our all time favourite since the release of the suryavamsam movie. We make idli upma not only whenever we have leftover idli's but also with freshly made idli's. The main flavour of idli upma lies in crumbling the idlis. When you roughly crumble and if the pieces are big, taste will not be perfect. Crumble the idlis as soft and small as possible so that the upma will be very tastier. Ingredients:
To Temper:
Oil - 2 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Urad dal - 1 tsp
Channa dal - 1 tsp
Red chilli - 2
Curry leaves - 1 spring
Onion - 1 medium sized
Salt - add 2 - 3 pinches
Idlis - 9
Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
Method:
Heat a kadai and add oil followed by mustard seeds
Add urad dl, channa dal, red chilli and curry leaves
Saute well for a minute
Add 1 medium sized onion chopped finely and salt, saute till it turns pink
MInce 9 idlis into very soft and small crumbles
Add the minced idlis and mix for 2 - 3 minutes
Now add 1/2 tsp pepper powder and saute well
Once the minced idlis are seperated and looks like small flowers, remove from flame
Serve hot
With Stepwise Pictures:
